Croatia

Croatia was one of those places that immediately made me feel at peace.

I stayed in Dubrovnik, and from the moment I arrived, I understood why so many people fall in love with the Croatian coast. The crystal-clear Adriatic Sea, the stone streets of the Old Town, and the relaxed atmosphere made it feel like a place where you could truly slow down.

I stayed in a hostel, and one of my favorite parts of the trip was meeting the people there. Everyone was incredibly friendly, and it didn't take long for conversations to start. That's one of the things I love most about staying in hostels—you never know who you'll meet or what stories you'll hear.

One day, I took a short ferry to Lokrum Island, and it ended up being one of my favorite memories from Croatia.

I spent the entire day there exploring.

I found a spot on the rocks overlooking the water, laid in the sun, and looked around to realize there was nobody else in sight. It was so relaxing just being there by myself watching the shimmering ocean. I think watching the ocean shimmer is one of my stress relievers and reminds me that everything will be okay.

The water was unbelievably clear, the waves gently crashed against the rocks, and everything felt so peaceful. I was simply enjoying where I was.

I also walked around the whole island on this little path where you could see the ocean the whole time from above. The views were outstanding with hidden coves to swim everywhere.

Another day, I spent hours walking around Dubrovnik's Old Town. Every street seemed to lead to another beautiful view, another little café, or another glimpse of the sea. The city has such a timeless feeling, with its old stone buildings, winding alleyways, and views overlooking the Adriatic.

Of course, I also made time to enjoy the beach.

The Croatian coastline is every bit as beautiful as people say it is. The water almost doesn't look real—so clear and so blue that you can see straight to the bottom. It was the perfect place to spend a warm afternoon, swim, and simply enjoy being outside.

While I was staying in Dubrovnik, I also took a day trip into neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina, which gave me the opportunity to experience another country in just one day. One of my favorite parts of traveling through Europe is how easy it is to cross borders and experience completely different cultures within just a few hours.

Looking back, Croatia wasn't a trip filled with a packed itinerary.

It was a place where I slowed down.

I swam.

I wandered.

I watched the sea.

I met new people.

And I let myself simply enjoy being there.

Sometimes the best destinations aren't the ones where you're constantly checking attractions off a list.

They're the ones that remind you to sit by the water a little longer, take one more swim, and appreciate the beauty around you.

Croatia did exactly that.
