Austria: A Real Life Winter Fairytale

Austria completely surprised me.

I knew it would be beautiful, but I wasn't expecting it to feel like I had stepped into a completely different world.

My trip started in Vienna, where I quickly realized I had made one very important mistake—I was not prepared for the weather.

I had packed light because I was traveling with nothing more than a small backpack, which meant I definitely wasn't dressed for heavy snow. I remember walking through the city wearing nothing but my little black Puma sneakers while snow covered the streets.

My toes were absolutely freezing.

I was determined to keep exploring, but I honestly remember thinking, I might actually get hypothermia.

Despite the cold, Vienna was beautiful. The snowfall gave the city such a peaceful atmosphere, and walking through the streets while everything was covered in white felt like something out of a Christmas movie.

The real highlight of my trip, though, was leaving the city and heading to Hallstatt.

If you've ever seen pictures of Hallstatt, you'll understand why it's one of the most famous villages in the world.

It looks like the village that inspired Frozen.

The drive there was incredible. We made another stop along the way, winding through the Austrian countryside as snow continued to fall.

Every time I looked out the window, the scenery became more unbelievable.

Snow-covered mountains stretched into the distance.

Tiny wooden houses sat quietly beneath blankets of snow.

Small villages looked almost untouched.

It didn't feel real.

It felt like I had somehow wandered into a movie.

There was so much snow that I genuinely wasn't sure our bus was even going to make it all the way to Hallstatt.

But thankfully, it did.

When we finally arrived, I understood why people travel from all over the world to see it.

The mountains towered over the little village, the lake reflected the snowy landscape, and everything was unbelievably peaceful. It was one of those places where you almost don't know where to look because every direction is beautiful.

Austria took my breath away in a way I wasn't expecting.

I came for a winter trip.

I left dreaming about coming back in the summer.

As incredible as the snow was, I would love to return one day to hike through those mountains, explore the alpine villages, and experience a completely different side of the country.
